Niara was born and raised in Brussels, Belgium. She studied classical ballet at the Conservatory of Brussels and spent 2 summers as a full scholarship student at the Chicago City Ballet. Her classical training instilled in her an appreciation for foundation, hard work and discipline.
At 18, Niara relocated to the U.S to attend Boston University. After earning her B.A in Psychology, she spent time living and working in Paris and Hawaii before settling in NYC. It was there that she resumed her dance training at Broadway Dance Center and Manhattan Motion. She was soon drawn to Boulder, Colorado and it was at Motion Underground Dance Studio that she expanded on her hip hop and contemporary training. Her drive as a student soon led her to teach numerous classes, encompassing various styles for all ages and levels, and eventually to direct performance hip hop troupes.
Colorado's thriving dance community offered many performance opportunities. She was a member of the Denver Nuggets NBA hip hop team, an AFL crush city dancer, and as a member of several dance companies, had the opportunity to tour both nationally and abroad.
Niara's next Dance venture was as a founder and co-owner of StreetSide Studios – a performance based dance studio in Boulder. She spent 2 years managing the studio, directing hip hop performance troupes, and teaching a mix of dance styles for youth and teen students. In 2010, Niara refocused her energy towards the development of Niara Dance, an adult dance program specializing in urban and contemporary movement.
Her continued dedication as a student has kept Niara inspired and motivated as a teacher. Her dynamic classes are influenced by a myriad of styles including hip hop, dancehall, street jazz, burlesque, breakin', house and contemporary jazz.
After relocating to California Niara had the opportunity to teach at the Academy of Performing Arts and spent 2 years working with circus performers at the San Diego Circus Center. She's currently an instructor at Pacific Arts Dance Center and The Facility and is the Artistic Director of 'DUSK' - an adult heels performance group. Niara's classes have been featured in abc's TV show "the list", the "Beach & Bay Press" and most recently in 'San Diego Magazine' as one of the top ten next level workouts.
Niara is passionate about teaching and loves reaching new students. Her high energy classes offer technique, choreography, and performance skills with a focus on developing and nurturing your own unique style. She always encourages her students to step outside of their comfort zone, to strive for maximum growth, and to always move with purpose. Niara lives in beautiful Pacific Beach with her husband and 3 children. She’s thrilled to be joining the “Volare” family and is looking forward to fusing her love of pole, dance, and fitness all under one roof.
