In early 2011 I started a push up challenge as a bet with my boss to see if either of us could work up to doing 100 push ups in a row by following an online program that hyped it could get you there in 6 weeks. I learned quickly that doing dozens of push ups in a row was incredibly boring. But I did enjoy the strength I was gaining in my arms, something that this former soccer player had never experienced before. I wanted to continue getting stronger, but I didn't want to do those hundred push ups.
So I signed up for my first group fitness class, an introduction to pole. I strapped on some heels and before you know it I was spinning around, climbing up, and inverting upside down! I had so much fun, and didn't have to do those push ups! I got stronger and stronger; I no longer needed help to change out the water bottle on the office water cooler, I could carry all my grocery bags in one trip from the car, and I could pick up my pet food from the post office because they wouldn't leave it at the door unless someone signed for it. More importantly though, I gained confidence. I was now part of a community of amazing people that lifted each other up and encouraged one another both on the pole and off.
My mission now is to support this community as best as I can and help others discover this magic that has transformed my life. I want to lift you up, figuratively and literally. And maybe someday I'll do those push ups.
